It was around 1995, and I was lucky enough to be invited to film for Snowboarder magazines movie, Dynasty. Back then, being a sponsored pro seemed like it was a whole different deal. We would get picked to go on these random photo shoots in obscure places for magazine editorial or film, often with a group of riders who you never knew before. In this case, Snowboarder took us around the world, combining our personalities and riding skills to make a totally rad mid-90s snowboard flick.
So Blaise Rosenthal, Noah Brandon, Billy Anderson, Temple Cummins and myself ended up in Portillo, Chile, on a sunny powder day. Pro snowboarders werent getting rich then, at least not as rich as now. And the worldwide fame hadnt come along yet, either. In other words, we werent taking anything for granted and we didnt have a lot of unrealistic expectations or pressure heaped on us. In my recollection, it was light, fun, carefree and pretty epic. Did I mention that the snow was good?
